During the third and final ODI of India vs England at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London, former India World Cup winner Yuvraj Singh, who was present at the stadium, discussed Rohit Sharma’s retirement and also shared his views on Virat Kohli’s future for the ODI World Cup 2027.
Yuvraj Singh, speaking during the mid-innings show on JioHotstar, said that the management should stick with two legends of Indian cricket, as the India national cricket team will need their experience in big tournaments like the World Cup, and they cannot rely on young players for these tournaments.
Yuvraj Singh supports Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma over World Cup future
Speaking on JioHotstar, Yuvi said that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma should cement their places for next year’s ODI World Cup and also criticized the media for making an issue of it when both of them are not performing well.
Yuvi said, “It depends on the management who they want to have. Ideally, you need experience in the team. You can’t just go with young people, or you can’t just go with experience in the team. You have to match it. And I believe that if they have to play the World Cup, they have to be safe right now.”
Yuvraj said in an interview with Star Sports during the mid-innings break for the third ODI, “The media always brings up the moments when they don’t perform, age and form, and all that is going to come. Whatever noise is outside, let it remain outside.”

Yuvraj Singh also stressed that the Indian team management should be completely transparent about the ODI future of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, as they have served Indian cricket for so long and are the most experienced guys in the team.
“Whatever your plans are, if you want these guys to go to the World Cup, you tell them now, and you secure them now. It’s great, you’re going to the World Cup, don’t worry about anything.”
She adds, “Or if you feel like someone isn’t fitting in, tell them, it’ll hurt, it’ll be a tough call, but ultimately the person will appreciate that you said it to their face.”
Yuvraj said, “This is my opinion. Be candid with your most experienced players. Virat and Rohit, what they have done for India is unmatched. The number of centuries they have scored is unbelievable, the games they have won for India, the contribution they have made on the field as players and captains is unmatched. But you need to be candid with your seniors.”
