Vaibhav Suryavanshi may not have enjoyed the dream start to his international career that many fans and experts had expected, but former India women’s team head coach WV Raman believes the teenager should not be judged by his debut series score.
The 15-year-old has struggled to make an impact during India’s tour of England, but Raman feels the teenager has the talent to become a top player if given enough time and opportunities.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi comes into the ongoing five-match T20I series in England with huge expectations after a sensational IPL 2026 season with Rajasthan Royals. However, the left-hander’s statistics show how challenging he is finding the English conditions compared to the IPL. Meanwhile, Gautam Gambhir’s animated chat with Vaibhav Suryavanshi after the IND vs ENG 4th T20I grabbed attention.
WV Raman wants Team India to show confidence in Vaibhav Suryavanshi
Sharing his views on Vaibhav’s struggles, WV Raman believes that the Indian selectors picked this wonderkid from Bihar because they trust his potential and see a bright future in him. Therefore, the young player should be allowed to play at least 15 to 20 international matches without any decision.
The former Indian cricketer is confident that regular opportunities will help Vaibhav settle down, gain confidence and ultimately perform as everyone expects. Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer’s sister alleged that he is playing with ’10 snakes’ in Team India.

“Don’t evaluate him based on numbers. If the selectors have picked him, it means they believe in his talent, and there is no doubt about his ability,” RevSportz quoted WV Raman as saying.
“Naturally, the opposition bowlers will study him closely because that’s how international cricket works. My suggestion is simple – let him play 15 to 20 matches without worrying about the statistics. I am confident that he will perform exceptionally well once he gains confidence through regular opportunities.”
Don’t change your game: WV Raman’s big advice to Vaibhav Suryavanshi
The former India coach also praised the teenager for sticking to his natural style of batting. Raman believes that to succeed at the highest level the youngsters just need the experience to understand when and where to make small changes against a top quality bowling attack.
He said, “The encouraging thing is that he has not tried to become a different player. Sometimes, youngsters feel that they have to change their game once they reach international cricket, but he has not done that. He has stayed within his natural framework, and with time, he will understand what adjustments are required to be successful at this level.”
English story of Vaibhav Suryavanshi
Earlier this month, the 15-year-old became India’s youngest international cricketer when he made his debut in the second T20I at Old Trafford, breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record.
But England’s bowlers, especially Jofra Archer, have targeted the young batsmen with extra pace and short-pitched balls, making it difficult for Vaibhav to play his natural aggressive game.
So far Vaibhav has struggled to convert his starts into big scores. He scored 14 runs from 10 balls before being stumped by Will Jacques in the second T20I at Old Trafford. In the third T20I at Trent Bridge, he scored 13 runs from five balls before being caught out.
His fourth match at Bristol also ended in disappointment as he scored 15 runs from 10 balls before becoming the second victim of Jofra Archer.
