There is speculation about Indian wicketkeeper batsman Sanju Samson bidding goodbye to his former franchise Rajasthan Royals to explore his chances in the IPL. Linked to CSK for the first time, the former RR skipper has now been seen training with RCB experts, creating a fresh buzz ahead of the mini-auction.
Indian wicketkeepers have been in high demand in the IPL auction and Sanju Samson is one of the best in the business. KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan and Jitesh Sharma are very unlikely to part ways with their former franchises; However, Samson’s disagreements with the Royals management have made him a potential option for many franchises.
Some famous franchises like Kolkata Knight Riders have also cited him as a captaincy option, while CSK was one of the first franchises to show interest in the Indian opening batsman.
Will Sanju Samson join RCB after ending his association with CSK?
Despite a decline in the batting order in the Asia Cup, Sanju Samson was India’s first-choice wicketkeeper. The 31-year-old batsman will once again be seen as India’s leading stumper in the 5 T20I matches of the Australia tour.
Ahead of the first match, to be played at the Manuka Oval in Canberra on October 29, Samson has been training with RCB’s throw-down specialist Gabriel. Recently, Samson’s picture with Gabriel taken during a training session went viral on the internet and has created a buzz among the fans.
There has been a lot of talk among fans about whether Samson has left Chennai Super Kings and has reportedly hinted at joining the defending champions in the IPL. Samson’s arrival could solve the number 3 problem for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Sanju Samson reveals why he left RR straight away
As per previous reports, Samson had urged the Rajasthan Royals management to release him before the mini-auction, as the former captain could not get on the same page with many people in the RR management. The problem probably started with the release of Jos Buttler ahead of the IPL 2025 mega-auction.
“Letting him go has been one of the most challenging decisions for me. During the England series, I told him over dinner that I still haven’t got over it. If I could change one thing in the IPL, I would change the rule of releasing players every three years,” Samson had told Star Sports ahead of the IPL 2025 season.
It was also reported earlier this year that the Royals were open to pursuing Samson and had asked several franchises to inquire about their interest in signing Samson. RR owner Manoj Badale even mentioned “names of specific players from different franchises whom the Royals want in exchange for Samson.”
CSK hold sideline talks on Samson trade, finalize deal for Indian all-rounder
As reports are rife with speculations about Sanju Samson leaving Chennai Super Kings, the CSK management has made a big move on the former RR skipper. They have sidelined Sammon talks for the time being because they could not agree to the Royals’ terms for a trade.
Instead he has sought to sign Gujarat Titans all-rounder Washington Sundar as an ideal replacement for Ravichandran Ashwin. Gujarat Titans have reportedly agreed to an all-cash deal with CSK, who could be the first signing of the pre-season trade window for IPL 2026.
