In a shocking development, the Indian selectors and team management have forced Rohit Sharma to retire from international cricket after mediocre performances in the recent few ODI series.

Earlier, there were reports that India national cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir does not want Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the ODI squad going forward, and now it has emerged that the current England tour will be the hitman’s last assignment as an Indian cricketer. Earlier, Abhishek Nair revealed how Rohit Sharma reacts to failures.

Rohit Sharma talked about retirement after England tour

According to The Indian Express, India’s third and final ODI against England at Lord’s on July 19 will be the last match of Rohit Sharma’s international career. The report claims that the BCCI selection committee has decided to move ahead with Rohit after the ongoing ODI series in England.

It has also been claimed that the national selectors along with Gautam Gambhir had spoken to Rohit last week and shared his plans for the future. The selection committee now looks to build a youth ODI team for the 2027 World Cup.

Yashasvi Jaiswal is expected to replace the hitman in the team, as the selectors do not see Rohit as part of India’s long-term ODI plans for the ICC World Cup 2026.

The Indian Express quoted a BCCI source as saying, “The selectors have informed Rohit that he is not in their plans after the England tour, and they are moving on from him after this series. However, he wanted to continue, especially after working on his fitness. The selectors have left the ball in Sharma’s court to decide his future.”
