Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar recently recalled the moment when Shubman Gill first moved to the national team’s nets in 2019 and shocked everyone with his talent, which included the then head coach Ravi Shastri, captain Virat Kohli and the prestigious MS Dhoni.
Shubman Gill was assigned his first India call-up for the ODI series in New Zealand a few months before the 2019 World Cup, and his first session with the senior team quickly turned into a memorable outing. Bangar revealed that Ravi Shastri, Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni were mesmerized by the performance, composer, timing and elegance of the right -handed batsman. The former batting coach said that Shastri immediately decided to cap for the first time after that session.

In particular, Shubman Gill made his debut in the fourth ODI against New Zealand, but failed to make an impact, scoring just 9 and 7 in two matches on the tour. Despite the slow start, he worked hard and started showing his true colors in 2022.
Now he has 2775 runs in 55 ODIs for the name so far. Gill has now become the vice-captain of India’s Test Captain and White-Ball teams. Once Rohit Sharma is expected to become the captain of Punjab Balak OD after retiring from international cricket, perhaps on a tour of Australia next month.
