Kavya Maran’s Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have reacted to the high-profile trade deal involving the experienced Indian fast bowler. Mohammed ShamiWho is ready to move to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) before IPL 2026. This trade marks a significant change in SRH’s team strategy under Maran’s ownership as they look to revamp their team after mixed performances in IPL 2025.
SRH’s strategic decision to trade Mohammed Shami
Shami, who was one of SRH’s most expensive buys in IPL 2025 for Rs 10 crore, had a challenging season, taking only six wickets in nine matches with an economy rate of over 11. Despite his struggles in form and impact during the last IPL season, Shami has shown encouraging signs of resurgence in domestic cricket, especially with impressive performances in the ongoing Ranji Trophy. However, SRH management decided to trade him to LSG, which is likely to free up funds and team slots for an impressive rebuild ahead of IPL 2026.
Responding to the trade, SRH wrote: “Your memories will always be cherished in the orange jersey. Thank you,
@MdShami11.”

LSG’s interest in Shami and trade deal
Lucknow Super Giants have bought Shami to strengthen their pace attack. The deal was a cash deal for Rs 10 crore without any player swaps, allowing SRH to collect a significant purse share to use in the IPL 2026 auction.
Despite the trade, Shami remains one of the most experienced and powerful fast bowlers in IPL history with over 130 wickets. His strong domestic form hints at a possible return to IPL prominence with LSG.

Kavya Maran’s vision for Sunrisers Hyderabad
Under the leadership of Kavya Maran, SRH is focused on restructuring the team with a balanced mix of young talent and experienced players. The trade reflects Maran’s willingness to make difficult decisions by moving away from expensive, underperforming assets in order to dynamically strengthen and realign the team. The emphasis on acquiring new players in the auction complements this approach which aims to improve the overall team efficiency and competitiveness in IPL 2026.
