During the India vs England 1st T20I in Durham, the Men in Blue won the toss and elected to bat first on a wicket that had some grass on it. The much-awaited debut of Vaibhav Suryavanshi did not materialize as India went into the match with their regular openers Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma. The former was once again dismissed early.

However, Abhishek Sharma continued his campaign and set a milestone in the match as he became the fastest player to complete 100 sixes in T20I history. The southpaw achieved the record in the 3.6th over after hitting a short ball from Saqib Mahmood into the stands. This is a big milestone for the second-ranked T20I batsman.
Abhishek Sharma created history
Abhishek Sharma played the least number of balls to reach the record of 100 sixes. He faced 785 balls and surpassed West Indies batsman Evin Lewis, who had achieved the feat in 789 balls. After the fall of two early wickets, Abhishek gave a solid start to India. He started firing from the very first ball and looked in sensational form.

Ahead of the game, Abhishek dropped from the top spot in the T20I batting rankings to second, while Ishan Kishan remained at the top spot. However, he responded strongly by scoring a blazing half-century in the match. The left-handed opening batsman scored a half-century in 20 balls and broke another record.
Abhishek Sharma is now the fastest by an Indian in England in T20Is. The previous fastest half-century was by KL Rahul in 27 balls in Manchester in 2018. He was out on the score of 59 runs in 24 balls, hitting 6 fours and 4 sixes in his explosive innings.
