The BCCI is reportedly confident of hosting the entire season of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) edition in India. Recent reports have suggested that IPL 2024 could be shifted outside the country due to the general elections.
According to a recent report, the BCCI could shift the competition to the UAE due to the elections. As per another report, the franchises recently asked their players and other squad members to submit their passports for some visa work which means that the teams want to remain prepared if the BCCI decides to move the tournament outside India.
The Indian Cricket Board’s decision to only announce the schedule of the first few games has only added fuel to the fire. Last month, the BCCI announced the schedule of only the first 21 games, scheduled to be played from March 22 to April 7. And while there is little clarity over the venue for the remainder of IPL 2024, a BCCI official has said the tournament will not be shifted outside the country.
According to Hindustan Times’ Rasesh Mandani, the official said that the BCCI would announce the full schedule for IPL 2024 once the election dates are out. In 2019, the BCCI successfully managed to conduct the entire tournament in India despite the general elections and will be hoping to do so once again this year.

IPL 2024: When IPL had to be played outside India:
The BCCI was forced to shift the IPL outside India on several occasions in the past. The first time the tournament was played outside the country was in 2009, just a year after the start of the IPL. In 2009, the competition took place in South Africa due to the general elections.
Five years later, the first phase of the competition was played in the UAE due to the elections. In 2019, the IPL took place in India for the first time in a general election year. In 2020, the BCCI had to shift the tournament to the UAE once again due to the Covid-19 outbreak. The 2021 edition began in India but had to be suspended and the latter stage was played in the UAE.
