Indian fans have once again criticized Gautam Gambhir and captain Suryakumar Yadav for retaining Shubman Gill in the team despite the Indian vice-captain’s consistent poor performances. This time, India left out former opener Sanju Samson with a core middle-order batsman.

Despite the pitch at the Melbourne Cricket Ground helping the bowlers, the Indian bowlers could not defend the small score of 125 runs. Although India took 6 wickets in the game, the game never looked in India’s favour.

Trailing by 1-0, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss in Hobart and decided to bowl first. Despite the batting-friendly track, the Indian bowlers performed well and restricted the Australian team to a total score of 186 runs.

Shubman Gill’s poor performance continues in T20 International

While Suryakumar Yadav, who came to bat in the second innings, had predicted favorable conditions for batting, Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill came to bat. Abhishek started in his usual style and started hitting the ball to all parts of the ground.

As the pressure increased on batsman Abhishek Sharma due to a tight over from Xavier Bartlett and Nathan Ellis, he succumbed to the pressure and threw away his wickets in an attempt to pull a very short pitched ball which came sharply to him.

The reason for the constant pressure was Shubman Gill, as he kept taking singles inappropriately without showing any intention of clearing the fence or stroking the ball powerfully to the boundary line. After struggling throughout the power play, he hit a boundary in Ellis’s second over and was out on the very next ball when a ball was pitched right in front of his pads.

Shubman Gill’s last 10 T20I innings: 20(9), 10(7), 5(8), 47(28), 29(19), 4(3), 12(10), 37*(20), 5(10), 15(12).

India dropped Sanju Samson from its batting order for Hobart match

The Indian team parted ways with its former Indian opener Sanju Samson for today’s game after demoting him to the middle order on several occasions. Shubman Gill made a sudden and unexpected return to the T20I setup, hence Samson was barred from opening for the Men in Blue.

He was swapped between numbers. 3 more no. 5 appearances for India in T20Is in 2024 despite scoring 3 centuries in the same year. Samson has not been able to score in the middle order, and yet he has not been given his place back at the top of the order.

Apart from this, talented Indian opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal in T20I has also not been selected in the team by the selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar and head coach Gautam Gambhir.
