Australian T20I captain Mitchell Marsh silenced his critics by ending his poor run with a brilliant century in this edition of the BBL. The century has finally arrived after a string of low scores in this year’s Big Bash League and it has come at the right time for the Australian T20I captain.

The most successful franchise, the Perth Scorchers, started the BBL with a win against the Sydney Sixers and could only manage two wins in the first four matches of the season. With a huge net run rate, they are currently ranked third behind Melbourne Stars and Hobart Hurricanes.

Perth Scorchers is led by Australian white-ball captain Mitchell Marsh. Although he has been playing the entire season, Marsh has not produced promising runs with the bat. However, he finally broke the shackles while playing in the fifth match for the Scorchers.

Mitchell Marsh surprises BBL audience by scoring a brilliant century

Two of the top three players in Perth Scorchers’ batting order have been named in the final squad for the ICC T20 World Cup today, January 1. Mitchell Marsh has been made the captain of the team, while Cooper Connolly is all set to play his first innings in the ICC tournament.

Mitchell Marsh, whose bat has been quiet this season after having an extraordinary year in international limited-overs cricket, showed glimpses of his great form and tremendous power in the fifth match against defending champions Hobart Hurricanes.

Opening the innings against the Hurricanes, Marsh got off to a great start and the Bisons continued their attack even after the power play ended. Marsh scored 102 runs off 58 balls and was dismissed by rival captain Nathan Ellis in the final over of the game.

Mitchell Marsh silences critics before T20 World Cup

Despite the return of former captain Pat Cummins to the T20I XI, Mitchell Marsh was named captain of the Australian team. The decision was taken after the selectors considered Marsh’s leadership useful for the young team.

Also, Pat Cummins’ availability for every match of the tournament is also in doubt and Marsh has been captaining the team in his absence for a long time. Showing a slight dip in form, Marsh was doubtful to continue his fine form at the World Cup.

However, just hours after his appointment as team captain, Marsh is set to lead the side in his first ICC tournament. This century serves as a warning sign to all opposition, giving a glimpse of their brutal power and what impact it can have on the small borders of the subcontinent.

Aaron Hardie misses out on a well-deserved BBL century

All-rounder Aaron Hardy came to bat at no. 4 for Perth Scorchers. Finn Allen and in-form batsman Cooper Connolly failed to form a partnership with Marsh on this occasion; However, Hardy supported his captain by striking even harder.

With an unbeaten 94 off only 43 balls, Hardy scored almost 220 runs and hit 5 sixes along with 9 fours in the innings. He could not reach his first century in BBL due to being run by Nathan Ellis in the last over of the game.

However, ahead of the T20 World Cup, such impressive innings from the Western Australian all-rounder will prompt George Bailey to reconsider his team selection for the major tournament to be held in India.
