Former Team India fast bowler Santhakumaran Sreesanth has told the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that when the Indian cricket team goes to play the 2028 Los Angeles Games, both Virat Kohli and Vaibhav Suryavanshi should be played together in T20Is.
After years of waiting, cricket will return as one of the major events at the Olympics in 2028. India will be there to participate on the grand stage. Going by the recent form, the Men in Blue will be one of the major forces to claim the gold medal in the upcoming Olympics.
Will Virat Kohli and Vaibhav Suryavanshi play together for India?
To mark the return of cricket at the event and announce the arrival of the Indian cricket team in style, S. Sreesanth asked BCCI to make the strongest possible team for the Olympics. Sreesanth has advised the cricket board to include both Virat and Vaibhav in the T20 squad especially for the tournament.
Virat Kohli retired from Twenty20 Internationals soon after winning the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup. He also retired from Tests, but continued to play in the One Day International formats for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the national team.
Memorable IPL 2026 season for Virat and Vaibhav
IPL 2026 turned out to be another memorable season for Virat as he helped RCB win the title in two consecutive seasons. Virat Kohli was chosen Player of the Match for his brilliant batting against Gujarat Titans in the final match.
The last season of the league will be long remembered for another reason: Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The 15-year-old Rajasthan Royals player wreaked havoc in the tournament with his extraordinary batting skills. Top-order bowlers from around the world, such as Jasprit Bumrah, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and many others, were clueless against the emerging opening batsman.
The southpaw finished the IPL 2026 season as the top-scorer with 776 runs and forced the BCCI selectors to include him for the India debut. At just 15, the Bihar-born player is on the verge of making his debut for India at the highest level of the game.

“The work he has done is incredible. You are talking about Olympic gold. I request Virat to play in the team. It will be a mix of senior and junior. Suryavanshi with Virat. It will be amazing,” S Sreesanth said in a video on YouTube channel Sports with Ravish.
Sreesanth urged BCCI to include both Virat Kohli and Vaibhav Suryavanshi in the T20 squad. Praising Kohli’s fitness at the age of 37, the former cricketer believes that if the board considers his name again for the shortest format of the game, he will play without any problem.
He said, “The selectors should keep Virat Kohli in T20 because of his fitness. It may be controversial, but I would request the selectors, ‘Please keep Virat in the Olympics.'”
On paper, Virat Kohli playing side by side with Vaibhav Suryavanshi sounds amazing, but at the moment it seems to be far from the reality.
