Zimbabwe national cricket team created history a few days ago when Chevron got a massive victory over in-form Bangladesh team in the one-off test match at Harare Sports Club, Harare. After that, the ODI series between the two countries is scheduled as they will face each other in a three-match ODI series starting from Monday, July 6 at the Harare Sports Club, Harare.
Ahead of the ODI series, the Zimbabwe national cricket team has announced the squad for the upcoming 50-over series against the Bangla Tigers. Richard Ngarawa leads the hosts for the first time in ODIs and ushers in a new era in Zimbabwean cricket, with experienced campaigners Craig Erwin and Sikandar Raza supporting him.
Richard Ngarwa appointed ODI captain
Richard Ngarawa made a stellar debut on his captaincy during the one-off Test as Chevron won the match by an innings and 85 runs, their biggest win by a margin in the traditional format of the game. The experienced fast bowler will once again look to guide the home team to win the ODI series against the strong Bangladesh team.
Richard Ngarawa is expected to lead the pace attack alongside Blessing Muzarabani, Brad Evans, Newman Nyamahuri and Ernest Masuku. The pace trio of Ngarawa, Muzarabani and Brad Evans created problems for the bigger opponents in the T20 World Cup 2026. They will definitely cause problems against Bangladesh with their pace and bounce.
Innocent Kaiya returns for Zimbabwe
Innocent Kaiya, who scored his maiden Test century in Zimbabwe’s innings and 85-run win over Bangladesh earlier this week, has been named in the ODI squad along with other top-order batsmen Ben Curran and Brian Bennett. Kaiya returns to the team after almost three years, as he last played a 50-over match against Ireland in 2023.
Brian Bennett has been the best batsman for the team in recent times; In the 2024/25 season, he scored over 350 runs with an average of over 35. The 22-year-old batsman was key to a successful T20 World Cup for the hosts and will be looking to make the same contribution in the ODI format.
Zimbabwe has good spin bowling depth
The team’s spin bowling assets include all-rounders Ryan Burl and Wesley Madhevere, as well as left-arm spinner Wellington Masakadza. The selectors have decided to retain Tadivanashe Marumani and Clive Madande as wicketkeepers.
They last played One Day International cricket in August last year, when they hosted Sri Lanka for a two-match series at the Harare Sports Club, in which the island nation completely defeated Chevron.
