Yuzvendra Chahal gives big update on Shreyas Iyer’s wrist injury

A moment of scare for Punjab Kings (PBKS) as their captain Shreyas Iyer was holding his wrist due to pain. Play was stopped briefly as medical staff came onto the field to look into the matter.

More than the result of the Punjab Kings vs Gujarat Titans (PBKS vs GT) match, there was more concern about the injury of the star batsman on March 31.

Even after the game, cricket fans were looking for every possible update regarding Iyer’s injury, as he is important not only for PBKS but also for Indian cricket. A powerful drive from Cooper Connolly hit the wrist of Iyer, who was standing at the non-striker’s end. Undoubtedly the ball hit him hard.

Shreyas Iyer continued batting despite wrist injury

Despite the pain, Shreyas Iyer continued his batting after receiving medical attention. But his innings did not last long. The right-handed batsman was out after scoring 18 runs in 11 runs. The brief innings proved impressive, as Gujarat Titans made a strong comeback with their experienced pace bowlers attempting to defend the total of 162.

The match lasted till the last over to find the match winner at the PCA New Cricket Stadium, Tira. Punjab Kings eventually won, thanks to Australian all-rounder Cooper Connolly who, as the opener, scored an unbeaten 72 off 44 balls, an unusual position to bat in, to confirm a much-needed win.

PBKS veteran Yuzvendra Chahal shares update on Shreyas Iyer’s injury

Along with Cooper Connolly, spin wizard Yuzvendra Chahal also played a key role behind PBKS’ victory in their first match of the ongoing IPL 2026 title race. Chahal maintained an economy rate of 7.00 in his 4-over spell, taking a couple of wickets in the form of Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill and England international Jos Buttler.

After the match, the spinner shared some important updates on Iyer’s injury. Chahal claimed that there is nothing to worry about his leader’s injury. Yuzvendra Chahal said, “He is fine, he is absolutely fine. There is nothing there.”

Iyer himself gave updates after the match

During the post-match presentation ceremony, Iyer himself assured that his wrist is as good as ever, so there is no need to panic.

Regarding injury fears, he said, “All I can say about the hand is that it’s good, it’s the same as before, I don’t want to mess anything up.”

He went on to encourage Connolly’s effort, “I was concentrating on icing the inside of my hand, and suddenly we lost two wickets in a row; things like that happen in the IPL. You have to stay calm. Cooper was there, he was cool and calm.”

The upcoming match is going to be quite challenging for PBKS as they will face Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 3 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. For this match, Kings will need a fully fit Shreyas Iyer on the field.
