Veteran leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal opened the captaincy style of Shreyas Iyer amidst the ongoing five-match testing between India and England. Chahal said that he likes Sris’s positive mindset and direct nature on the field, keeping in mind the achievements of his leadership in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Yuzvendra Chahal is currently playing for Northamptonshire in the 2025 county season. In particular, this is his third consecutive summer term in English domestic cricket. He signed a contract running from June by the end of the season.

While the Indian national cricket team is visiting England for the five -match Test series, Chahal, who has never been a part of India’s testing plans, continues to focus on county cricket.

Yuzvendra Chahal opens on the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer amidst the India-England Test

During a conversation on Raj Shamani’s YouTube Podcast, Yuzvendra Chahal shared his views on Shreyas Iyer’s leadership. Chahal said that Iyer has a positive attitude and a straightforward nature on the field.

Leg-spinner said that Iyer does not speak negatively and lets talk to his performance. Chahal also highlighted Iyer’s impressive leadership record, took Delhi to an IPL final after a decade and directed Kolkata Knight Riders for a title 10 years later.

“Amazing. Positive. I like his attitude on the field. He does nothing negatively or anything. He is very straightforward. I think his bat speaks for himself. Last year, he led Delhi in the final after 10 years. He directed KKR to win 10 years later. After 11 years, we played in the playoffs.”

Yuzvendra Chahal also played for Punjab Kings in IPL 2025 after being signed for ₹ 18 crore in the mega auction. The experienced leg-spinner made a slow start of the season, but his rhythm was found as the tournament proceeded.

Chahal depicted in 14 matches, with an average of 26.87 and the economy rate was 9.55. He played an important role in the journey of PBKS in the final.

However, Chahal has not been regular in the Indian team and played for the country for the last time in August 2023 during the T20 Eye against the West Indies. While he was part of India’s squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup, he did not get to play a single match. The team picked up the trophy.
