Punjab Kings (PBKS) leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal finally got the big wicket of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) icon Virat Kohli with a smart and calculated delivery during the ongoing IPL 2026 clash at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala on Sunday, May 17.

Chahal may be the highest wicket-taker in the IPL, but Kohli has always been the biggest obstacle for the leg spinner. Despite sharing the Royal Challengers Bangalore dressing room for years, the veteran spinner could not find a way to get the better of the former Indian skipper.

In IPL history, Chahal has managed to dismiss Kohli only twice. First, Kohli was caught at deep midwicket while attempting a slog sweep shot during the Rajasthan Royals vs RCB eliminator match in 2024 and now in the ongoing IPL 2026 clash in Dharamsala on Sunday.

Yuzvendra Chahal’s clever trap sends dangerous Virat Kohli back into the big clash of IPL 2026

Yuzvendra Chahal bowled the slower ball and gave it good flight around middle and leg stump to inspire his former RCB teammate Virat Kohli into the attack. The informed batsman tried to play a stylish, wristy flick towards the leg side and looked to remove the fielder at deep mid-wicket.

However, the ball went quite straight and towards the fielder. Kohli failed to get enough height on the shot, so instead of crossing the boundary line, the ball remained in the air and Priyansh Arya standing at deep midwicket guessed it very well and completed a brilliant catch.

Chahal eventually gave a big breakthrough to PBKS as Kohli returned to the pavilion after playing a brilliant inning of 58 runs in 37 balls with the help of 4 fours and 3 sixes. Notably, the PBKS spinner has had a mixed IPL 2026 season and has taken 9 wickets so far.

Virat Kohli creates new IPL record with explosive innings against PBKS

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli once again proved why he remains one of the greatest batsmen in the history of the Indian Premier League by achieving another major feat during the ongoing match. The Royal Challengers Bangalore superstar now holds the record for scoring the most runs against a single opponent in IPL history.

Kohli has now scored 1217 runs in 37 innings against Punjab Kings, surpassing his incredible figures against other top IPL teams. He also has 1174 runs against Chennai Super Kings and 1172 runs against Delhi Capitals.

Mumbai Indians’ Rohit Sharma is fourth in the list with 1161 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders, while Australia’s David Warner has scored 1134 runs against PBKS.

Virat Kohli has become the first batsman to score more than 500 nine times in IPL.

In another incredible feat in the IPL, Kohli has now recorded nine 500-plus scores in the tournament, the most by any batsman in the history of the tournament.

Warner and KL Rahul are jointly second in the IPL with 500+ scores seven times, while former India opener Shikhar Dhawan has achieved the feat five times in the world’s biggest T20 league.

Well, thanks to Kohli’s 58, Devdutt Padikkal’s 45 and Venkatesh Iyer’s unbeaten 73 off 40 balls, RCB scored 222/4 in their 20 overs against PBKS in Dharamshala.
