Legendary Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh was honored as the Maharaja Yadvendra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, also known as the New Chandigarh Stadium, hosted its first men’s international game on Thursday, December 11.

The New Chandigarh Stadium turned into a festive atmosphere as Indian women’s cricket team captains Harmanpreet Kaur and Yuvraj Singh were honored by having a stadium stand named after them just ahead of the second T20 match between India and South Africa.

Both the stars arrived on this occasion with their families and friends. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann attended the ceremony along with newly elected BCCI President Mithun Manhas. Yuvraj’s presence added extra excitement among the fans and the Indian cricket team.

He spent time with the Indian players and support staff, especially head coach Gautam Gambhir and bowling coach Morne Morkel, and welcomed them with his usual friendly charm before the match.

Yuvraj Singh joins Team India in Mullanpur

Yuvraj also joined the team, sharing his trademark energy and speaking to the players with the same passion that once lifted India through some of its biggest moments.

The players were clearly thrilled to have the two-time World Cup winner with them in Mullanpur, smiling and chatting with him. Meanwhile, Yuvraj shared his happiness after meeting the Indian players, saying that it felt natural to guide and motivate them again.

“I am very happy to meet the boys and talk to them. And now, on the other hand, it is natural to look out for them. I remember there was always a barrier between us and there was always a spark of conversation that motivated us to go out there and perform. I really enjoyed it,” Yuvraj Singh said in a video shared by the BCCI on its social media handles.

Yuvraj Singh backs India to reach the knockouts of ICC T20 World Cup 2026

The legendary all-rounder expressed confidence in India’s strength in white-ball cricket and predicted a knockout for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Yuvraj said his heart doesn’t change whether India wins or loses, as he has seen both tough defeats and big wins in his career.

Yuvraj further said, “I have been watching these guys and seeing their progress over the years. And when it comes to T20Is and ODIs, we are the best team. The T20 World Cup is coming, so I am sure the preparations are going well, and I have no doubt that my Indian team will go to the last four or the last two.”

He signed off by saying, “But for me, whether they win or lose, I’m always proud of them because I’ve been part of a team that has lost a lot of battles and won some big battles as a team. And I really think if they stick together as a team, results will come.”

Notably, Yuvraj has represented India across all formats, playing 40 Tests, 304 ODIs and 58 T20Is, with his last appearance coming in 2017. Known for his fearless batting and left-arm spin, he played a key role in India’s historic 2007 T20 World Cup win and the 2011 ODI World Cup.
