Yuvraj Singh apologizes to MS Dhoni and Kapil Dev on behalf of his father

2 April has been a special day for Indian cricket fans, because on this day in 2011, India won its second ODI World Cup on home soil. After 15 years, Player of the Tournament Yuvraj Singh was present on Sportstak’s podcast with Vikrat Gupta, where he spoke candidly about various cricketing topics.

On the podcast, Yuvraj Singh publicly apologized to two former Indian captains MS Dhoni and Kapil Dev. Yuvraj was also a part of the 2007 T20 World Cup win and the 2011 victory, in both cases he was the player of the tournament and it was under the captaincy of MS Dhoni where he had the best time of his career.

I told my father, this is not right – Yuvraj Singh

In the Sports Tak podcast, the teaser of which was released on Thursday, Yuvraj Singh said: “I would like to apologize to Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni.” They were also asked: “Do you feel bad when you listen to interviews?” On asking questions, Yograj Singh’s photo appears. Possibly answering that question, Yuvraj says: “I told dad, it’s not right.”

The apology comes after Yuvraj Singh’s father Yograj Singh, who is now a well-known cricket coach in Punjab, made controversial statements about former players. In 2025, he said that he wanted to kill Kapil Dev because the then captain had dropped him from the team during the 1980s.

Yograj Singh wanted to kill Kapil Dev

“When Kapil Dev became the captain of India, North Zone and Haryana, he removed me without any reason,” Yograj said on YouTube channel ‘Unfiltered by Samdish’, as quoted by India Today.

“My wife (Yuvi’s mother) wanted me to question Kapil. I told her I would teach this bloody man a lesson. I took out my pistol and went to Kapil’s house in Sector 9. He came out with his mother. I abused him dozens of times. I told him, because of you I have lost a friend, and what you have done, you will have to pay the price for it.

“I told him, ‘I want to shoot you in the head, but I’m not going to do that because you have a very holy mother standing here.’ I said to Shabnam, ‘Let’s go.’ “That was the moment I decided I would not play cricket – Yuvi would play.”

Yuvraj Singh spoke on Abhishek Sharma

Further, while speaking on MS Dhoni and Bishan Bedi, he fiercely targeted and openly said that they not only ruined the careers of the cricketers but also the team.

On MS Dhoni and other former players, Yograj once said: “I talk about Bishan Singh Bedi, Kapil Dev, MS Dhoni. I can talk about the people I have been with. They have treated people like dirt. What is wrong is wrong. Two wrongs cannot make one right. I say this openly – our cricketers and the team were destroyed by our captain.

In the same podcast, Yuvraj Singh talked about Abhishek Sharma and expressed his displeasure over not giving the captaincy to Abhishek and handing it over to Ishan Kishan. He said that the former player has been associated with the franchise for a long time and has also captained the state.
