Former India batsman Yusuf Pathan In his hometown, Vadodara, a residential plot has been in legal trouble.
Cricketer-Politician has been declared encroachment by the Gujarat High Court after rejecting his petition challenging a notice from Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC).
Yusuf Pathan rejected orders
The court has also ordered VMC to remove encroachments. The ruling was given by a bench of Justice Mauna Bhatt. The saga began back in 2012 when Yusuf Pathan decided to buy an open residential plot next to his Tandalja bungalow, citing security concerns for himself and his family due to his position as an international cricketer.

VMC accepted the request but eventually rejected it in 2014. However, Yusuf Pathan defined the orders of civil officials and continued to occupy the property illegally. 10 years later, in 2014, VMC issued a notice to the former cricketer, instructing him to vacate the government -owned plot. In response, Yusuf Pathan decided to contact the court.
‘Yusuf Pathan has a big responsibility’
In the judgment, Justice Bhatt highlighted that Yusuf Pathan has more responsibility to follow the law as he is a public person. Justice Bhatt also said that providing generosity to someone due to the situation would set a dangerous example.
Justice Bhatt said, “As a national representative and public person, Pathan has more responsibility to follow the law.”
“Celebrity, due to their visibility and impact, shapes public behavior and social values. Permission to give them concessions despite violating them reduces public belief in the judicial system and sets a dangerous example.”
Yusuf Pathan won the World Cup with India
Yusuf Pathan was a part of the Indian team that won T20 World Cup ODI in 2007 and 2011. He played 57 ODIs and 22 T20I for men in Blue between 2007 and 2012.
A hard-touching middle-order batsman and an easy spinner, Pathan scored 810 runs in Odis with the help of two centuries. He also took 33 wickets in the 50 -over format. In T20Is, Pathan scored 236 runs at a strike rate of 146.58 besides taking 13 wickets.
