It’s a big relief for Yashasvi Jaiswal and Mumbai as the young Indian opener’s health is finally heading in the right direction after several weeks of worry. Yashasvi Jaiswal is suffering from a serious stomach problem, Acute Gastroenteritis, due to which he had to be out of action.
Yashasvi Jaiswal had to pull out of Ranji Trophy due to health reasons.
The issue also ruled him out of Mumbai’s recent Ranji Trophy 2025-26 match against Delhi. It all started with a “serious bout of food poisoning” after a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match in Pune in December 2025, when Jaiswal suffered intense stomach pain and cramps.
His condition deteriorated so much that he had to be admitted to a hospital in Pune, where doctors conducted several medical tests including endoscopy and CT scan. Since then, the left-handed batsman has been on rest and medication, with doctors closely monitoring his recovery.

Because the issue persisted longer than expected, Mumbai selectors did not consider Jaiswal for the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 Elite Group D clash against Delhi, starting January 29, as the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) awaited a clear fitness update.
Positive update brings hope of quarterfinal comeback
Now, a fresh update has finally brought positive news. Jaiswal recently met doctors and was advised further investigation, but his condition is improving. He will remain on medication for the next two weeks and has been cleared to gradually resume physical training and skill work from 28 January.

MCA lost patience with Yashasvi Jaiswal!
However, it was earlier reported that Yashasvi Jaiswal was dropped from the Mumbai squad for the final Ranji Trophy league match against Delhi due to his “pick and choose and non-responsive” behaviour. That being said, Jaiswal has been selective about the matches he wants to play and has often failed to respond when selectors tried to confirm his availability ahead of team meetings.

This lack of communication played a significant role in his lapse. The matter is more serious as Jaiswal is not currently part of India’s T20 squad playing in New Zealand, nor is he in contention for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026. While the BCCI has apparently instructed players to play domestic cricket when they are free from national duty, Mumbai officials were disappointed by their silence.
“It is true that he was non-responsive even before his selection for the last match (against Hyderabad), and it clearly seems that he is picking the matches. We had contacted him for the last game and even before selecting the team for the upcoming one, but we did not get any response. Therefore, he was not considered for selection for the home match against Delhi,” an MCA official was quoted as saying by PTI.
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s domestic performance this season
Jaiswal has featured only once in the Ranji Trophy this season, where he impressed with scores of 67 and 156 in a drawn game against Rajasthan in Jaipur. However, he continued to play regularly in white-ball tournaments, playing three matches each in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy.
