Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is out of India’s T20I plans despite being part of the World Cup-winning squad last year, gave a strong reminder of his talent in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Playing his second match after returning to the domestic T20 tournament, Jaiswal scored a brilliant century.
The 23-year-old is not part of India’s T20 squad for the ongoing South Africa series. He may not be in the frame for the 2026 T20 World Cup. However, with Shubman Gill and the rest of the group not scheduled to feature in any red-ball matches until August next year, Jaiswal may face a long break from international cricket.

My dream is to play T20 World Cup – Yashasvi Jaiswal
Yashasvi Jaiswal may be an established name at the top of India’s Test order, but he is getting rare opportunities in white-ball cricket. He traveled with the 2024 T20 World Cup-winning squad as a reserve opener behind Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, but has not played any T20Is since July last year.
Speaking at an event recently, Jaiswal admitted that it is a big dream for him to play in the upcoming domestic T20 World Cup. However, he is currently out of India’s T20I plans, where Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill and Sanju Samson are seen as the preferred opening options.
“My dream is to play the T20 World Cup but I will try to focus on my game and wait for my time,” Jaiswal had said during the ‘Agenda Aaj Tak’ conclave.
Yashasvi Jaiswal was last seen in action during the ODI series against South Africa
Yashasvi Jaiswal last played for India during the three-match ODI series against South Africa. He struggled in the first two matches, but took full advantage of the opportunity in the last game.
The left-handed batsman scored his maiden ODI century, 116 not out, which helped India chase 271 with ease. He added big partnerships with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli which brought the innings under complete control.
The young left-hander joins an exclusive group of Indian players who have scored centuries in all three international formats. Before Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill and Suresh Raina have achieved this feat.
Jaiswal’s place could be uncertain even after Gill returns for India’s next ODI series against New Zealand starting January 11. The southpaw could also return to the bench after a match-winning effort.
