Rishabh Pant’s injury in stumps on India 264/4 Day 1 raised the alarm
India made a strong start at 1 of the fourth Test at Old Trafford, scoring 78 runs in the first session, without losing wickets. KL Rahul (46) and Yashsvi Jaiswal (58) handled England’s new ball attack well. But England bounced back after lunch as Chris Woakes removed Rahul, and Liam Dawson soon got Jaiswal.
Sai Sudarshan and Rishabh Pant (37*) stabilized the innings with a solid partnership. Reformson scored 61 runs before exiting. The pants, however, had to stop the injury after a painful blow to his ankle. India ended day 1 at 264/4, but Pant’s injury is a major concern.
England are ready to take the second new ball for the first time on day 2, and the first hour can decide the flow of the match. Already began to behave unevenly with the pitch, the batting will be difficult only as the day.
If India manages to survive in the morning session at day 2, they can push their total to about 350, which will feel like 450 on this difficult surface. But if England attacks quickly and wins the session, they may be able to keep India low in 325 or Old Trafford Cricket Ground.
