Yashasvi Jaiswal has opened up about his heart-touching partnership and relationship with Rohit Sharma. Yashasvi Jaiswal made his Test and T20I debut under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma and he has so far batted with the former Indian captain more times than others.

And the youngster admitted that the Hitmen’s support has played a huge role in his rise as an international opening batsman. Jaiswal said that Rohit is a very rare kind of leader. From outside he looks calm and relaxed, but as soon as he feels that a young player can perform better, he becomes serious and puts pressure on the players.

The Mumbaikar revealed that when Rohit shouts at him or others, it never sounds negative. Jaiswal revealed that sometimes Indian players get worried when Rohit does not scold them.

Yashasvi Jaiswal said at the Agenda Aaj Tak event, “Rohit bhaiya scolds us; he also loves us equally. There is love in his scolding. In fact, if Rohit bhaiya is not scolding you, there is an uneasiness that what happened; why is he not scolding? Does he feel bad about my action? It seems, is he angry with us? So his scolding also seems like affection and his love for all of us.”

Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal came under a lot of pressure in the third and final ODI against South Africa. He had failed to score in the first two ODIs, and with Rohit and new captain Shubman Gill ahead of him in the ODI lineup, many felt he was slipping into the role of a backup opener.

But in Visakhapatnam, the young left-hander changed everything with one of the most important innings of his career. Jaiswal started his innings with obvious nervousness. He had played a lot of dot balls in the beginning and the pressure of continuous failures was weighing on him.

But Rohit Sharma stood right next to him at the other end and kept guiding him every moment. Yashasvi revealed that former Indian captain Rohit kept talking to him, helped him focus on taking his innings forward and reminded him to remain patient while taking more risks.

This understanding between the two opening batsmen turned into great success. Together, they formed a powerful opening partnership of 155 runs which eliminated South Africa from the final ODI. After Rohit’s wicket, he added 116 not out for the second wicket with Virat Kohli to lead the Men in Blue to a nine-wicket win over South Africa with 61 balls to spare.

Jaiswal remained unbeaten on 116 off 121 balls and won the Player of the Match award for his match-winning century. He said about his approach with Rohit, “When I started my innings, I was nervous because I had not scored in my last two matches. During that innings, Rohit bhai talked to me a lot. He kept explaining how I can play and what I can do.”

The youngster said, “I was under pressure because I had played a lot of dot balls and I also had to think about maintaining a good strike rate. Then Rohit bhai told me, ‘You play calmly; I will take risks.’ And you could see how big-hearted he was; He was taking risks mostly because he wanted me to settle down and keep playing.”
