After achieving a big win in the one-off Test against Afghanistan, Team India claimed a clinical win against them in the first ODI as well. Captain Shubman Gill was in form in the rain-interrupted match in Dharamshala. KL Rahul came in as the number 5 batsman and played an explosive innings to ensure the win.
Reddy will have to play a bigger role
The second match will be held on June 17 at Ekana International Cricket Stadium, Lucknow. Nitish Kumar Reddy will have to play another important role in the series as Hardik Pandya has been ruled out of the entire ODI against Afghanistan. In Pandya’s absence, Reddy is the only seam bowling all-rounder in the team.
Nitish Kumar Reddy was good in the last match as he took some wickets. After taking no wickets in his first four matches in this format, the all-rounder got his first wicket in his fifth match since his debut in the One Day International format. Rahmanullah Gurbaz was the first batsman to lose his wicket against the rising Indian all-rounder in ODIs.
Gurbaz scored a record-breaking hundred-plus innings against India before being selected by Reddy. An accurate yorker from the seamer dismissed the in-form batsman. Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored the fastest century ever for the Afghanistan national cricket team. He needed only 48 balls to complete his century.
The century scored in 48 balls was the second fastest century against India in this format. Former South African batsman Hasim Amla is one batsman who still holds the record for scoring the fastest century against the Men in Blue in ODIs.
Yashasvi Jaiswal was on the bench
On the other hand, Yashasvi Jaiswal, who joined the team as a replacement for injured Virat Kohli, was on the bench in the first match of the current series. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill were the opening batsmen for India. Sharma and Gill are expected to open the innings in the second match also.
