All five franchises – Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore and UP Warriors – finalized their teams after an intense bidding war and dramatic twists. With a combined purse of ₹41.1 crore, the teams filled 18 slots each, retaining 17 players from earlier. Overall, 67 cricketers were selected from a pool of 277 players (194 Indians and 83 foreigners) for ₹40.8 crore, underscoring the league’s growing financial strength and depth of talent.

New Zealand all-rounder Amelia Kerr was given Rs 3 crore by Mumbai Indians, while Sophie Devine got Rs 2 crore from Gujarat Giants during the initial bid. Other key signings include Australia’s Meg Lanning (₹1.9 crore, UPW), Laura Wolvaardt (₹1.1 crore, DC), and England fast bowler Lauren Bell (₹90 lakh, RCB), who have added a mix of power-hitting, spin talent and pace power to the team.

Uma Chhetri, Tazmin Britts and Alana King also did not find any takers, sparking discussions about the changing dynamics of the market. UP Warriors – armed with the biggest purse (₹14.5 crore after a retention) – dominated the auction by securing Sophie Ecclestone (₹85 lakh via RTM) and Phoebe Lichfield (₹1.2 crore). Mumbai Indians reunited with Shabnim Ismail (₹60 lakh), while RCB strengthened their attack with Nadine de Klerk and Radha Yadav (₹65 lakh each).
With the WPL 2026 season taking place from January 9 to February 5 in Navi Mumbai and Vadodara, the stage is now set for a highly competitive edition. As the league enters its third year, franchises will now turn to captaincy decisions and pre-season training camps, which promise high standards and excitement.
