In a major announcement that outlines the tradition and appeal of English cricket places, International Cricket Council (ICC) Confirmed that England will host the final of the next three cycles World Testing Championship (WTC)Covering 2027, 2029, and 2031. The final form finalized at the ICC’s annual conference in Singapore, 2021, 2023 and the most recently after the successful tournament in 2025, expands England’s run as the only host of the Marki Test event.
The reason behind the decision of ICC
ICC board cited England “Successful track records hosted recent finals” As a decisive factor in awarding the award England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) Rights for three more versions. The stand and enthusiastic mobs seen at Lord’s, The Oval and the Rose Bowle have also demonstrated the growing stature and fan engagement of the tournament in the UK in the absence of the England team in these matches.
ECB Chief Executive Officer Richard gold Expressed happiness over the declaration, highlighted the privilege of being handed over with these prestigious matches. “Honoring these finals is a huge honor, which shows the deep enthusiasm of English and international fans for Test cricket,” Gold said in his official statement.
In particular, India created a strong pitch to host at least 2027 WTC finals, arguing for a more geographical diversity in places and equality for the finalist from all over the world of cricket. However, the ICC selected for continuity, amidst concerns about mob voting in the subcontinent, if the Indian team did not reach the final and ongoing complications in regional cricket politics.
This decision means that, despite the comprehensive call to rotate the finals between cricketing countries – including recommendations from players and pundits – WTC Shopis will remain in ‘home house’ for at least six and years.
Overview of last WTC final
Till date all three WTCs have been finalized in England:
- 2021 in Rose Bowl, Southampton: New Zealand performed its first ICC Test Trophy, defeating India under bio-reserved circumstances.
- 2023 Oval, in London: Australia won India in a sold competition.
- 2025 in Lord’s, London: South Africa captured its first world test crown Defending Champions Australia before a total of 109,227 fans in four days.
High appearance and global digital engagement (continuity of 225 million digital ideas alone in the 2025 final) has carried forward to continue the case of England as a host.
