India’s Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup-winning spinner, Vaishnavi Sharma, who remained unsold in the WPL mega-auction, has secured her first WPL contract for Mumbai Indians midway through the WPL 2026 season.

The Women’s Premier League is in its fourth edition, and teams have revamped their playing squads, with several new additions and key players from other sides moving to other franchises. Currently, Royal Challengers Bangalore Women, who are looking to win the WPL in 2024, are on top of the points table.

Vaishnavi Sharma gets first contract in WPL

Mumbai Indians have suffered a big blow as their player G. Kamalini has been ruled out of the remainder of the WPL season due to injury.

20-year-old youngster Vaishnavi Sharma has played for India in the U19 World Cup and was the leading wicket-taker in that edition, and then made her debut for India. Playing 5 matches for India, she also took 5 wickets in senior level women’s cricket.

Finally, the young spinner has got a debut contract with Mumbai Indians for Rs 30 lakh.
