The burning question in Indian cricket circles – will Rohit and Kohli play in the 2027 ODI World Cup? – Finally got a response from BCCI Chief Selector Ajit Agarkarspeaking in NDTV World Summit 2025Agarkar clarified that no final decision has been taken yet regarding his inclusion in the plans for the 2027 World Cup.
“They are part of the team in Australia at the moment. They are incredible players, but this is not the platform to talk about individual players.” Agarkar said.
“Two years from now it is difficult to say what the situation will be. Who knows, there may be younger players who will take the place. Both are great players and will not be tested in every match. We will assess the situation once they start playing.” Agarkar was added.
The chief selector further said that India’s selection decisions will revolve around winning major trophies rather than just individual performance.
“It is not that if they score three centuries in the Australia series, they will play the World Cup in 2027. We have to keep the situation in mind.” Agarkar noted.
His comment comes amidst increasing speculation Shubman Gill He was appointed as India’s new ODI captain in place of Rohit ahead of the Australia series. While both Kohli and Rohit are vital to India’s batting depth, the selectors are reportedly keen to strike a balance between experience and youth as the next World Cup cycle begins.
