In Australia’s first innings, Braydon Carse bowled a short ball on the fourth ball of the 57th over and Steve Smith tried to make a pull shot. However, the right-handed batsman only managed to top-edge it towards backward square leg.
Jacques had a lot of ground to cover, but he delivered the ball in style. The third umpire confirmed the catch, and Carse dismissed two set batsmen in the same over, bringing England back into the contest.
Smith went back to the dressing room after scoring 61 runs, while the spectators and commentators were stunned by the catch. Due to this wicket, Australia lost five wickets and the match turned into an exciting battle.

This is as good a catch as I’ve ever seen – Michael Vaughan
Former players and pundits react after Will Jacks takes a one-handed catch to dismiss Steve Smith. Michael Vaughan described it as one of the best catches he had ever seen. He said Australia’s mistakes opened the door and brought England back into the contest.
“It’s as good a catch as I’ve ever seen. Oh my God! It doesn’t get much better than this, it’s incredible movement from Jack. We’re watching Australia do what England usually do with the bat in hand, mistake after mistake. Now England are back in the game. We’ve got a Test match on our hands,” Vaughan was quoted as saying by BCC Test Match Special.
