
The uncertainty surrounding global travel due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia has sparked discussion about whether Indian Premier League (IPL) You may have to face disruption this year. In relation to the same, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice president Rajeev Shukla has provided a much-needed update.

Speaking about the situation, Mr Shukla said that the tournament will go ahead as per the existing plan. Notably, BCCI has already released the schedule for the initial phase of the season while the remaining schedules will be finalized. Mr Shukla informed that the Board has adopted a phased approach to scheduling to accommodate potential logistical challenges arising from the election process. According to him, only the first set of matches has been released as of now, while the rest of the tournament schedule will come after clarity on the election dates.
“The IPL will take place as per schedule. We have released the schedule of 20 matches. The schedule of the remaining matches will be released after the Election Commission announces the dates of the polling states.” Mr Shukla was quoted as saying by NDTV.
Mideast conflict raises travel concerns for international players
While the IPL schedule itself is unaffected, the ongoing conflict in West Asia has created some challenges related to international travel. Flight disruptions in the region have already affected cricket teams recently, highlighting how geopolitical developments can indirectly impact the game.

Earlier, BCCI released the fixtures for the initial phase of IPL 2026, which will run from March 28 to April 12. A total of 20 matches will be played across multiple venues during this period.
