Will Gautam Gambhir become the CEO of Rajasthan Royals? Bomb fell in the middle of T20 World Cup

Will Gautam Gambhir leave the post of head coach of Team India soon? This question has been doing the rounds on social media platforms ever since a report related to Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Rajasthan Royals (RR) surfaced.

The IPL 2008 winner is reported to have approached Gautam Gambhir, who serves the Indian men’s senior cricket team as the head coach, to come on board. According to reports, the former Indian cricketer has been offered to join the franchise as CEO, mentor.

Rajasthan Royals also offered some stake to Gautam Gambhir

According to the report of Dainik Jagran, most of the shareholders of Rajasthan Royals are selling their stake to the new owners. The deal is in transferable condition. In the new management of RR, one of the owners has offered Gambhir a two-three percent stake besides becoming the CEO and mentor.

As a player and a consultant, Gautam Gambhir has enjoyed considerable success in franchise leagues. With Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), he won the title twice – first as a captain, then as a consultant. During his two-season stint with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), as a consultant, he helped the team finish third in the points table and qualify for the playoffs.

Lodha Committee can ban Gambhir

With some notable achievements, there could be many franchises who would like to make Gambhir an offer. But will Gautam Gambhir be able to accept the possible offer from Rajasthan Royals? Probably not, because he is currently associated with Team India.

According to the Supreme Court decision based on the Lodha Committee, the former Indian cricketer, who is now a coach, will not be able to play two different roles at the same time. That means, being the head coach of the team, he will not be eligible to join Rajasthan Royals. Gambhir will have to bid goodbye to the national team if he wants to join an IPL franchise.

Will Gautam Gambhir step down from the role of Team India?

The media report also claimed, “However, sources close to Gambhir declined to comment on the matter. They only said that Gambhir is committed to the Indian coaching post. His aim is to help the Indian team win the 2026 T20 World Cup and the 2027 ODI World Cup.”

Media reports have also claimed that at present Gambhir has no intention of leaving Team India and his current contract with the Indian team is till the 2027 ODI World Cup. Currently, Suryakumar Yadav and his men are enjoying dominance in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026. Next year, the Men in Blue will be in action for the ODI World Cup. There is very little possibility that Gambhir will leave the team in the middle of such an important tournament.
