Will Cameron Green be fined for not bowling? Former KKR star strongly criticized the all-rounder and Cricket Australia

There was a big drama in IPL 2026 regarding Australian all-rounder Cameron Green. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bought Cameron Green for a whopping Rs 25.20 crore in the mini-auction last year, making him the most expensive foreign player in IPL history.

But in the very first match of KKR’s IPL 2026 season against Mumbai Indians, Green did not bowl a single ball and this has created a big controversy. The three-time champion team lost the first match of the season by 6 wickets even after scoring 220 runs.

Ajinkya Rahane forces Cricket Australia to clear the air on Cameron Green

Mumbai Indians openers Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton thrashed the KKR bowlers and scored 148 runs in less than 12 overs. When Kolkata bowlers were brutally beaten by the MI openers, many wondered why Cameron Green was not used as he was dropped due to his all-round abilities.

After the match, Kolkata Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane got angry when he was faced with this question. The irked captain asked the media to ask Cricket Australia (CA) why Green was not available to bowl in the opening match of IPL 2026.

As the controversy escalated, Cricket Australia (CA) came forward to clarify the situation. CA revealed that Green is suffering from a lower back problem and it may take 10-12 days before he can bowl again. The Australian board also revealed that “KKR is fully aware of this information.”

KKR deserves compensation: Aakash Chopra

Meanwhile, the controversy escalated further when former Kolkata Knight Riders and India batsman Aakash Chopra strongly criticized the entire situation. He believes that KKR paid for a complete all-rounder but they only got a batsman, which is completely unfair to the franchise.

Chopra posted on Twitter during the match between MI and KKR: “If you pay for an all-rounder and get a batsman in return, you should, at least, be eligible for a refund.”

After Mumbai Indians won the match, Chopra posted a video of himself on his social media handle, where he said that franchises spend crores after planning their entire team balance, and now CA is not allowing Green to bowl, so they have to return some money to KKR as compensation.

Aakash Chopra defends Cameron Green but demands punishment, action against Cricket Australia

In a video posted on his Ax handle, Chopra said: “You bought an all-rounder for Rs 25 crore. Cameron Green. He was Andre Russell’s replacement. Now he comes here but doesn’t bowl. And I’m thinking now; I have no words. What is this logic, brother? No, you are not completely prepared,” said Chopra in a video posted on his Ax handle. You have to manage your workload. So, you have to go to the IPL, but you won’t bowl. I would say, cut the money.”

He further added, “And there should be some penalty for that. I mean, cutting the money is a small thing to say. But there should be some penalty, because what is the team supposed to do? The team has spent almost 25% of its budget on one player.”

Because you need a skill set that is not readily available. And when IPL starts, a fit and available person comes to you. But Cricket Australia says, “No, we are managing your workload.” We don’t want you to bowl right now. How is this fair, friend?”

Chopra urges BCCI to intervene as CA is taking IPL lightly

The cricket pundit criticized CA for taking the IPL lightly and urged BCCI not to let this happen as the franchises are suffering losses for no fault of theirs. “They feel cheated and they have every right to feel that way. Yes, you can’t blame the player,” he said. Chopra has defended Green, saying that CA is just sending a message to BCCI and IPL about their mentality.
