Bangladesh rejects ‘undue’ pressure from ICC
The crux of the crisis is Bangladesh’s refusal to play its group-stage matches in Kolkata and Mumbai, citing increased security concerns following the Mustafizur Rahman IPL controversy. While the ICC has reportedly set January 21 as the deadline for a final decision, Bangladesh’s sports advisor Asif Nazrul Has adopted a defiant stance. He made it clear that Bangladesh will not succumb to unreasonable pressure from BCCI or ICC. BCB’s request to shift its matches to Sri Lanka has been rejected by the ICC, which says the risk to India is assessed as low to moderate.
“If the ICC succumbs to pressure from the Indian cricket board and tries to impose unfair conditions on us, we will not accept those conditions. We cannot be forced to play in India by putting unreasonable pressure. In the past, there have been instances where Pakistan said they would not travel to India and the ICC changed the venue. We have asked for the change of venue on logical grounds.” The Indian Express quoted Nazrul as saying.
