Recently in a development, the BCCI announced the 15-member squad of India for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, with Suryakumar Yadav’s name Skipar. In particular, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer were left out of the team, and chief selector Ajit Aggarkar explained the reasons behind their lapse from the squad.
India’s Asia Cup squad has many match winners. However, the omission of Yashsvi Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer surprised many fans. Players like Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson and Tilak Verma have recently given a strong performance, making it difficult for BCCI to accommodate the lineup to include them.

Agkar said that Abhishek Sharma could provide flexibility for the captain, making it difficult to accommodate Jaywal. Speaking on Iyer, Agkar said that it is not due to any defect of the player or selectors, and may have to wait for his opportunity.
“With regard to Yashsvi Jaiswal, I mean it is unfortunate again. Abhishek Sharma, what he has done in the last few months or a year is with the team. Also, that he can bowl a little, if he gives us an option, if needed, by the Captain.”
“One of these people was always going to remember. It is just unfortunate that Yashasvi may have to wait for his opportunity. In relation to Shreyas, I mean, we can change it. Again, there is no fault.
Yashasvi Jaiswal was part of the winning T20 World Cup squad last year, but was not in a single match. Since then, India has played 20 T20i under Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy, 17 of them have won 85% of them with the rate of success.
Jaiswal was in good rhythm in small format in international cricket and IPL. The left -handed batsman scored 559 runs in 14 games and rated a strike of 159.71 during the IPL 2025 season.
Overall, he has scored 723 runs from 22 T20I at an average of 36.15 including a century. Southpo last played a T20I series against Sri Lanka in 2024, where he scored 80 runs in three innings at a strike rate of 177.
