Star 27-year-old India National cricket team wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has been snatched from the squad for the Asia Cup 2025.
Rishabh Pant, who was part of the India’s T20 World Cup 2024-winning team, has been selected for the Continental tournament due to injury.

He faced a leg injury during the 68th over and was forced to hurt after scoring 37 runs. Pant was injured while playing a predetermined reverse sweep from Chris Woakes and dropped the ball down on his boot.
The wicketkeeper-batsman saw a lot of pain after jerking into his leg and was immediately taken out of the ground in a small car.
The scan further revealed that Pant had fractured his leg. Despite this, he went out to bat for India in the 102nd over and received a permanent ovation from the audience as he made his way in the middle.
He was in the inconvenience to appear, but managed to hit a nice fifty (54 from 75 balls) which helped him become India’s leading run-goldter in the ICC World Test Championship history.
Rishabh Pant ate out of Asia Cup and West Indies Test
Pant injuries are quite serious, and it has also dropped him out of the Asia Cup as well as out of the subsequent home Test series against the West Indies National Cricket Team.

However, Rishabh Pant did not have a certainty in India’s squad, even though it is fit as Sanju Samson has been the first choice wicketkeeper-batsman in T20Is for some time.
Pants also did not enough to win the trust of the selection committee with the bat in IPL 2025. After becoming the most expensive player in IPL history, he scored just 269 runs for LSG’s best and an average of 24.45 and 133.16.
Meanwhile, Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sharma have been named as two wicketkeepers for the Asia Cup 2025.
Shubman Gill named T20i Vice-Captain
India Test captain, Shubman Gill, has made a comeback to the T20I squad and has been nominated as the vice-captain. Former India assistant coach Abhishek Nair feels that Gill will soon capture the all-format captain. Speaking on espncricinfo, he said:
“He asked Ajit Agarkar whether he is going to be an all-format captain with the current captain (T20I) soon, sitting next to the selectors. It tells you how everyone, including the selectors, is thinking.
