Cricket Control Board in India (BCCI) State associations have issued a rigorous reminder that all center contracted players should participate in the domestic tournament if available. Instructions follows the lapse of surprise KL Rahul And Mohammad Sirj – from the squad of the South region for the upcoming Dalip Trophy raises questions about the reputation and quality of the competition.
BCCI firm players are on participation in Dalip Trophy
The Duleep Trophy has traditionally been an important platform for red ball preparation and national selection. Confirming its importance, the BCCI has made it clear: until international duty or officially exempted, all contracted players should get out for their zonal aspects.
The General Manager of BCCI’s cricket conduct Abi Kuruvilla informed this for state units and regional convenors, stress: “To maintain its reputation and ensure the highest quality of competition, it is necessary that all the currently available players of India are selected for their respective zonal teams.”
Dispute over the lapse of prominent players from South region squad
The announcement of the squad of the South region left Rahul, Siraj, Washington Sundar and Sai Sudarshan, indicating the intervention of the board. The BCCI’s 2024 policy had already warned that the National Coach, Chairman of the Selection Committee and the board without withdrawal from domestic cricket, could endanger the future India call-up to centrally contracted players.

Some state associations argue that incorporating senior international people in India can serve better than playing a tourist or representative fixtures zonal cricket, while the spots can also free the spots for young talent. Nevertheless, the BCCI insists that the presence of star players promotes competition and motivates the next generation.
Non-pervasive policy of BCCI
Despite the debate, the BCCI has not shown any signs of retreat. With stars like Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami and like Shreyas Iyer Specialty in regular household squads, the board believes that the policy strengthens the domestic structure and preserves the stature of major tournaments such as the Duleep Trophy.
