India and South Africa have started their ODI campaign with the first match at the JSCA Cricket Stadium in Ranchi. This is KL Rahul’s 13th match as the acting captain of India, as he has captained in 12 matches and won 8 of them.

As soon as both captains called for the toss, South Africa’s Aiden Markram walked into the middle along with Indian captain KL Rahul, who has been appointed as Shubman Gill’s replacement in the series.
Bavuma has been rested for this match, as informed by stand-in captain Aiden Markram. He also informed that Keshav Maharaj has also been rested and Prenelan Subrayan has been selected as the only spinner in the team.
However, India suffered another major setback as they lost their 19th consecutive toss in ODI cricket. Markram opted to bowl first and said it would be easier to bat in the evening due to dew.
