There is no Rohit Sharma in the Mumbai Indians (MI) side for tonight’s match against Gujarat Titans (GT). Before the match, the veteran batsman was seen batting in the net session but at the time of the toss, it was confirmed that the former MI skipper was not a part of the crucial match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Rohit Sharma suffered a hamstring injury while batting against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Due to injury, he could not even play Mumnai’s last match, which was against Punjab Kings.
Young Danish Malewar has replaced experienced Rohit Sharma.
Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians have taken several bold decisions to take on Shubman Gill’s Gujarat Titans. The Blue Team have handed debut caps to two exciting talents. Krish Bhagat and Danish Malewar are set to make their Indian Premier League debut with Mumbai Indians.
Danish Malewar is set to open the innings along with Quinton de Kock, while Krish Bhagat will handle the bowling duties.
MI bowling coach declared Rohit Sharma ‘fit’.
Ahead of the GT vs MI match, Mumbai Indians bowling coach Paras Mhambrey told that the batsman performed well in the nets. In the pre-match press conference, he provided an update on another injured player, Mitchell Santner. Santner is playing tonight’s match; He replaced opening batsman Ryan Rickelton.
“Both are fit. In fact, if you walk here in the nets, if you just look at Rohit Sharma’s batting. So yes, he is working on it. Santner is fit. So, unfortunately, we missed him (Santner) in the last game, caught a bug. Not something we could have done. But both are fit, yes,” Mhambrey told the media.
Following his comments, it was believed that Rohit Sharma could at least play against GT as an impact replacement. But when the team made the announcement there was no sign of ‘Hitman’.
It will be interesting to see how the 5-time IPL winners perform against Gujarat Titans without the experienced opener. MI has never been able to beat GT before at the Narendra Modi Stadium. During the match, all eyes will be on debutants Krish Bhagat and Danish Malewar. To keep the dream of IPL 2026 playoffs alive, Mumbai will have to register a spectacular win against Gujarat.
