Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been the best teenage talent of India currently. The southpaw used the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 as the platform to announce his arrival on the big stage, and impressed fans and experts alike with his fearless batting and maturity beyond his years. Due to this, he quickly got a place in the India A team and later in the senior team.

He won the Orange Cap after a stellar season with Rajasthan Royals (RR), scoring 776 runs and finishing the tournament as the leading run scorer. The 15-year-old became the youngest player to win the IPL Orange Cap; Furthermore, Vaibhav Suryavanshi won almost every possible individual award, including the Most Valuable Player, Player of the Tournament awards.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi scored 94 runs

Vaibhav Suryavanshi was recently seen playing in the Tri-Nation series in Sri Lanka. It was a List A match, where he performed brilliantly in the final, scoring 94 runs in 29 balls, narrowly missing out on a good century in the final against Sri Lanka A. He was involved in a physical altercation with some Sri Lanka A players during the first group matches.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi has made his mark at such a young age. However, former South African great Daryl Cullinan has raised concerns about the 15-year-old’s long-term fitness, saying that his powerful swing could put a strain on his body in the latter stages of his career. He has tremendous bat speed, which stems from power hitting.

I am amazed by this young man – Daryl Cullinan on Vaibhav Suryavanshi

Cullinan fears that the young player may suffer many injuries in the coming years. He said, “I am amazed by this young man, but the thing that is bothering me, and no one is talking about it, is the injury? At the age of 15, swinging a big bat, playing so much cricket, I fear for his wrists, elbows, small stuff and joints. What does the medical opinion say?”

Cullinan cited the example of Sachin Tendulkar’s tennis-elbow injury in 2004, when the career-threatening injury left him unable to even lift a bat. Due to the talent of this 15 year old boy, he is often compared to the ‘God of Cricket’. Despite having suffered many injuries on his body during his 24-year-long career, Tendulkar was afraid of one injury the most.

He certainly shouldn’t be swinging that hard – Daryl Cullinan

“Remember, Sachin’s career was almost over due to a bad elbow. He definitely wouldn’t have swung as hard as Suryavanshi,” Cullinan posted on LinkedIn after Suryavanshi’s match-winning 94 in the Tri-Nation series final in Dambulla.

“I think he’ll be on a pretty strict routine. The fact that he’s still growing, and the joints, the ligaments, the muscles, too, I think? They’ll be taking stress, I can assure you,” Cullinan wrote in response to a comment.

“I know a few guys who had chronic wrist problems. The thing is, we were using light bats, playing very little cricket. He’s still growing, that needs to be remembered. Today’s training and recovery methods will help, but I fear for his long-term future and health.”
