Jasprit Bumra in Asian Games 2026, a surprising decision taken by the BCCI selectors. For the Asian Games 2026, teams mostly prefer to send a reserve group of their players. Last season, the BCCI had also sent a group of emerging players to the tournament, and it proved to be enough to claim the gold medal.
It was expected that this year’s Asian Games would see a mix of young and experienced players. But the panel led by Ajit Agarkar has a different thinking. Giving priority to the tournament, they have announced a full squad for the event.
An all-star team for the Asian Games 2026
Bumrah, who has played in most of the high-level competitions, is also ready to play the Asian Games. Vaibhav Suryavanshi is the only emerging batsman in the team who is capable of single-handedly creating havoc in the Twenty20 format.
A few days ago, BCCI had released a 30-member extended list of players for the event. The 30-member long list had many emerging players like Anukul Roy, Ayush Badon, Vipraj Nigam, Yash Thakur, Harsh Dubey and Suryavanshi. It is certain that the Board of Control for Cricket in India had in mind the idea of building a team with a lot of emerging talent, and along with those who are experienced but rarely get the opportunity to represent the country.
From there, taking almost a 180-degree turn, the selectors named an all-star team led by Shreyas Iyer, supported by T20I team vice-captain Tilak Verma.
Indian team for Asian Games 2026: Shreyas Iyer (captain), Sanju Samson (wicketkeeper), Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper), Shivam Dubey, Tilak Verma (vice-captain), Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Varun Chakraborty, Ravi Bishnoi, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Jasprit Bumrah.
Why does BCCI send a full strength Team India for this event?
But why did the selectors change their mind? There has been no official statement regarding this, but there is a theory which is related to Pakistan.
Pakistan will be present there to face India in the Asian Games 2026. Mohsin Naqvi-led Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) can send a strong team to claim the title. Team India is the defending champion, so it will not want to lose the title under any circumstances. Actually, BCCI does not want to take any risk while defending its title.
BCCI preparing to defeat Pakistan in Asian Games!
“The Board of Control for Cricket in India did not want to take any risk of losing to Pakistan in the Asian Games, so the entire long list was changed, and a stronger team is being sent to the Asian Games. Pakistan was trying to give a tough competition to India by sending a stronger team to the Asian Games,” Dainik Jagran correspondent Abhishek Tripathi mentioned in his ‘X’ post.
It further read, “Normally second-tier teams are sent to the Asian Games, but keeping in mind the inclusion of cricket in the Olympics and the opportunity to beat Pakistan there again, it was decided to send a strong team there.”
The Board of Control for Cricket in India did not want to take any risk with Pakistan in the Asian Games, so the entire long list was changed and a strong team is going to the final of the Asian Games. Pakistan was trying to unite a strong team in the Asian Games and give a tough competition to India. Usually Asian…
