Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, match number 24 was between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Punjab Kings (PBKS). This match will be played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and it will be a high scoring match. MI won their first game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), since then they have not won any game.

PBKS won the toss and decided to bowl first. During the toss, Hardik Pandya gave an update on former team captain Rohit Sharma as the opener has suffered a hamstring injury and has been ruled out of tonight’s match. Pandya also informed that Mitchell Santner will not be able to play due to the ill health of the New Zealand captain.

Rohit Sharma missed

Rohit Sharma’s exit will be a big blow for the MI team as he has been responsible for giving explosive starts to the five-time winners over the last few years and his leadership input will also be missed in this game. Rohit is currently the highest run scorer for the team.

Rohit Sharma has been in great form this season and has scored 137 runs in four matches at a strike rate of 165.06. Rohit Sharma last missed an IPL match in MI’s clash against LSG in the 2025 season after suffering an IT (iliotibial) band injury in his knee.

Rohit Sharma out of the last game- Hardik Pandya

Mitchell Santner was expensive in the last game; However, he has been an important member of MI’s setup in recent times. His experience on a pitch like Wankhede would have been beneficial for the five-time winners. Since the pitch is a bit dry, it could have some spin during the match.

During the toss, when Pandya was asked, “What is the injury news because you have been troubled by some injuries?” He replied, “Yes, Rohit is out of the last game. He will take a few games to see where he really is. And Mitchell is also unwell. So Mitchell Santner is also not available. So, yes, we have got a few changes. Quinny is back and we have a debutant Mayank Rawat.”

Missing those big moments- Pandya on MI’s plans

Hardik Pandya also said that MI is looking forward to the remaining matches and will try to capitalize on the opportunities given and win the match. It is a do or die situation for Mumbai, because if they lose one more match, they will be out of the playoff equation.

“We would have also liked to bowl first, but yes, it’s good to lose the toss. (But time to move on?) Yes, time to play some good cricket, time to get a win. So, yes, I think we played good cricket. It’s just that in some overs, we didn’t capitalize on it and we kind of missed those big moments.”

“And we’re just going to talk about it and make sure that in this game, we come out there and make sure we keep winning the little battles. Yes, I think in the last game, we went for four 20+ overs. I think at any time in T20 cricket, that’s not acceptable.”
