Match No. 59 between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), during the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Before the game, both teams observed a minute’s silence and wore black armbands to commemorate those who lost their lives in the cyclone that hit Uttar Pradesh. This is a moment of respect for the people.
According to reports, at least 111 people died and 72 were injured in the last 24 hours as a severe storm accompanied by torrential rains lashed several districts of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday. According to the latest data, the tragedy that affected 26 districts left 111 people dead, 72 injured, 170 animals dead and 227 houses damaged across the state.
Why did CSK and LSG players wear black armbands and observe a few moments of silence?
For the moment of respect, LSG and CSK players were seen wearing black armbands. Whenever former cricketers have died or any kind of natural disaster has occurred, cricketers have shown their respect to the deceased by wearing armbands. This will symbolize paying tribute to the eleven lives that left their mortal bodies.
The families of the deceased will get immediate financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh. The highest number of deaths was in Prayagraj with 21 deaths, followed by Mirzapur (19), Bhadohi (16), Fatehpur (11) and Bareilly (2). Officials reported that most of the deaths and injuries were caused by falling trees, collapse of structures, flying objects, and wall or roof collapse caused by the heavy storm.
It is a matter of good fortune- Rituraj Gaikwad
Talking about the match, LSG captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and decided to bowl first. They made some changes and Chennai Super Kings did the same. CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad said, wearing the CSK jersey makes him feel special. This is a must-win game for the men in yellow.
“It’s a privilege to get this (support), it’s a privilege to wear the yellow jersey. It’s the kind of venue where you have to bat well and bowl well. So I think batting first, we still have to make a good score and we have seen that defended as well.”
“So I think, yes, it might be suitable, looks like [there’s] There is a little moisture in the beginning, but I think, if we bat well and score around 170-180, it will be a good score to defend. (How are you dealing with all these injuries?) It’s hard, honestly.”
