The BCCI has named off-spinner Saransh Jain, full of batting qualities, for the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. On 28 July, the Board of Control for Cricket in India announced the full squad for the Test series against Sri Lanka, with Saransh being the last name in the 15-man list.
Due to several injury concerns, the BCCI was forced to make some changes to the Test squad. It is believed that Saransh Jain will be included in the team as a replacement for spin bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar, who is yet to recover from a hamstring injury.

Saransh is a well-known face in Indian domestic cricket and has emerged as one of the most prominent off-spinners in recent years. With both ball and bat, he was impressive for the Madhya Pradesh state cricket team in domestic tournaments.
The year 2025 is considered to be one of the major turning points of his career. According to the Cricinfo report published on September 15, 2025, in the last twelve months period, Saransh Jain was the most successful off-spinner in first-class cricket in India with 44 wickets.
Additionally, the right-arm spinner, who is a left-handed batsman, scored 311 runs with the bat.
Because of those 44 wickets and 311 runs, by then he was one of only four players with double performances of 300-plus runs and 40-plus wickets in the previous year. In 2024, during the Irani Trophy tournament, when Saransh was playing for the rest of India cricket team, he took 6 wickets for 121 runs in Mumbai’s second innings. Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer and Sarfaraz Khan were the notable batsmen who lost their wickets against the emerging spinner.
Saransh Jain played for India A cricket team
Back-to-back impressive seasons in domestic cricket helped him play for the India A cricket team recently in Sri Lanka for the Tri-Nation series and was selected as one of the net bowlers for the India vs Afghanistan one-off Test at home. The Madhya Pradesh born player is one of those who never shy away from giving extra flights to the batsmen.
In most cases, spinners think twice before bowling the ball in the air, as it may go to the boundary. However, it is considered to be one of the most wicket-taking options for any spinner.
Ruturaj Gaikwad’s wicket summary was proof of Jain’s hunger to take wickets
In the 2025-26 Duleep Trophy semi-final, when Ruturaj Gaikwad was batting on 184, Saransh Jain suddenly flew to extra.
The well set batsman extended his leg outside the crease and fell into the net. Ruturaj Gaikwad was stumped on a personal score of 184 runs. In the final of the tournament, the bowler with high-arm action took 8 wickets, 5 in the first innings and three in the second innings.
Saransh finished the Duleep Trophy 2025–26 season with 16 wickets for Central Zone. India will go to Sri Lanka to play some tests. Since Saransh has only had the experience of playing in the island nation for a few weeks already, it is expected that he will get used to the foreign conditions soon.
