Who is Devendra Bora? Uttarakhand fast bowler who dismissed Rohit Sharma for a golden duck

Uttarakhand fast bowler Devendra Bora made headlines after dismissing Rohit Sharma for a golden duck in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 group-stage match at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Bora became one of the few bowlers in world cricket to dismiss the Indian star without conceding any runs.

On Friday, December 26, Rohit wanted to attack from the beginning, but could not time his shot right. The fast bowler who dismissed him took 3 wickets for 74 runs. Despite Rohit’s early dismissal, Mumbai scored 331 for 7 with Hardik Tamore’s 93 and half-centuries from Sarfaraz Khan and Musheer Khan.

Devendra Bora dismissed Rohit Sharma for zero in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26

Rohit Sharma entered the match doing everything his way. He had scored 155 runs against Sikkim and fans were expecting another big innings on the same ground. However, the match was a disappointment for the crowd and supporters.

Devendra Bora, playing his third List A game, hit a four in the opening over after his team chose to bowl. Rohit went for his trademark pick-up pull, but failed to connect cleanly and was caught by Jagmohan Nagarkoti at deep square leg.

The atmosphere was heated when Uttarakhand won the toss and decided to bowl first. Rohit came to bat with young batsman Angkrish Raghuvanshi.

Devendra Bora made his mark in just his third List A appearance

Devendra Bora made his List A debut in 2024. He has played limited List A cricket, appearing only once in the 2024–25 Vijay Hazare Trophy. The fast bowler returned to the state team for this year’s 50-over tournament.

In his second List A innings of this season, he took four wickets against Himachal Pradesh. He once again performed well in the ongoing match against Mumbai by taking three wickets, which also included the early dismissal of Rohit Sharma.

It is noteworthy that all the List A matches of Bora so far have been played at the same ground – Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

Devendra Bora’s rise in domestic cricket from Uttarakhand Premier League

Devendra Bora came into limelight during the 2024 Uttarakhand Premier League, where he helped USN Indians win the title. He finished as the tournament’s top wicket-taker with eight wickets in five matches.

In the 2025 season, Bora moved to Dehradun Dabangs. He took nine wickets in seven matches and became one of the leading bowlers of his team. He also took 2 for 27 in the knockout playoffs, but Dehradun failed to reach the final.

Bora made his first-class debut in January 2024 in a Ranji Trophy match against Pondicherry. He impressed with the ball, taking five wickets in the game. However, he was out for zero in both the innings. Bora has played 15 first-class matches and taken 30 wickets.
