Delhi Capitals (DC) wicketkeeper-batsman and Bengal’s rising star Abhishek Porel has been embroiled in a shocking controversy. The 23-year-old is now facing serious charges after an FIR was registered against him at Mogra police station in Hooghly, West Bengal.
A medical student from Karnataka has accused Porel of allegedly having sex with her after promising to marry her before refusing to marry her.
Who is Abhishek Porel?
Abhishek Porel is a resident of Chandannagar, West Bengal, India. Born on 17 October 2002, he is a left-handed wicketkeeper-batsman and is known for his aggressive batting style and smart wicketkeeping skills.
He comes from a family where cricket has already made its place. His cousin, Ishan Porel, is a famous fast bowler in domestic cricket and IPL. Abhishek started his training at the National James School Academy in Chandannagar before moving to Kolkata for better training.
This left-handed batsman played Under-16 and Under-19 cricket for Bengal and impressed everyone with his fearless batting. His strong performances at the junior level helped him earn a place in the senior Bengal team in 2022. Since then, Abhishek has represented Bengal in first-class, List A and T20 cricket.

Abhishek Porel is embroiled in a legal dispute after a woman filed a police case against him in West Bengal. A medical student from Karnataka and her mother had lodged a complaint at Mogra police station in Hooghly district.
The woman has alleged that she and Porel were in a physical relationship for about three and a half years and both had planned to get married. According to the complaint, Porel later refused to marry the medical student despite allegedly promising to marry her.
The woman has accused the cricketer of having a physical relationship with her by making a false promise of marriage. He has also accused Porel of assault and criminal threats. On the basis of these allegations, Mogra police has registered an FIR against Porel and started investigating the case.

“I am playing well now, so a lot of things are coming to the fore,” Porel said. The Bengal wicketkeeper-batsman also revealed that Hooghly Rural Police had not contacted him directly when he first responded to the allegations.
However, Porel said that he is ready to cooperate fully in the investigation and follow the legal process. He stressed that he would present his side of the story at the appropriate time.
He further said, “I will talk about it when the police investigate… I will respond in detail after the police complete their preliminary investigation.”
