As discussions grow over the future of senior Indian cricket stars, former World Cup hero Yuvraj Singh Has brought a strong message for the decision makers. Speaking on Sports Tak podcast, Yuvraj stressed on the need for transparency regarding Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s plans for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
Yuvraj Singh urges clarity on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s future
Despite moving away from other formats, both the legends remain key figures in India’s ODI setup. His recent performances have shown that he is still capable of performing at the highest level. However, the lack of a clear roadmap from the management has raised questions over long-term planning.
The Crown Prince acknowledged their continued importance, saying, “Senior players are important. Virat Kohli has had a great series. Rohit has been performing consistently.” He said. But he also made it clear that important future decisions should not be delayed just because of performance.
According to him, honest communication is essential – not only for the benefit of the team, but also for the players themselves.
“When will you prepare Jaiswal?”: Yuvraj Singh
Although Yuvraj supported the presence of experienced players, his biggest concern was the lack of opportunities, especially for emerging talent. Yashasvi Jaiswal.
The young opening batsman had impressed with a brilliant century in his last ODI, yet he had to be left out of the playing eleven in the next series. For Yuvraj, it raised serious questions over India’s approach to building the team for the future.
“Look at Yashasvi Jaiswal; he scored a century in his last ODI, but he is sitting out. When will you prepare Jaiswal? You have the World Cup next year,” Yuvraj asked the question.
He stressed that the task of grooming young players cannot be left till the last minute. If Jaiswal is seen as a long-term option, he now needs consistent opportunities – not just the occasional one.
“If you are going to the World Cup, you should play many games,” He added.
Yuvraj’s comments reflect a wider concern in Indian cricket – finding the right balance between supporting proven performers and grooming the next generation for major tournaments.

Yuvraj’s warning for the future of Team India
Beyond individual players, Yuvraj’s message focused on long-term planning. He clarified that his thoughts were not about leaving out senior players, but about ensuring that the team is not left unprepared.
“I am not saying that you should leave anyone out. But if you are playing the 2027 ODI World Cup, you should start preparing your team right now. You have to give them many games. Take decisions, it should not happen at the last moment that one of your senior players gets injured and there is no young player.” The prince warned.
His warning highlights a practical concern – injuries, loss of form, or sudden changes can disrupt even the strongest teams if there is no backup ready.
With both Rohit and Virat focusing on extending their ODI careers till 2027, the onus is now on the selectors and team management to manage this transition carefully. It is not just about maintaining the current success, but also about ensuring continuity.
Yuvraj’s perspective comes from experience. Having been a part of the World Cup-winning team, he understands the importance of timing when it comes to building a team.
