Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra criticized the Indian team management for not selecting Prabhsimran Singh for the first two matches of the ongoing three-match T20 series against Zimbabwe, the third and final match of which will be played on Sunday.

Aakash Chopra said that Prabhasimran, a keeper-batsman, was eligible to play for the India national cricket team against Zimbabwe in the previous games.

Prabhsimran Singh has not yet debuted for India

The Indian team management named Singh in the squad for the series against Zimbabwe, along with another keeper-batsman, Ishan Kishan. Ishan was the automatic choice to retain his place in the playing eleven in place of Kishan Singh.

Since the Indian team management has been rotating the team to try out several emerging talents, it was expected that Prabhsimran would be seen in the last two matches. His case looked strong as the team had given Vaibhav Suryavanshi a chance to make his debut in this format against England before the Zimbabwe tour.

Give Ishaan a break: Aakash Chopra’s suggestion to Team India

Aakash Chopra mentioned that India could have easily rested Ishan, who has been playing matches for the team in two consecutive series, and included Prabhsimran Singh in the playing eleven as the keeper-batsman.

Prabhasimran performed well with the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Punjab Kings and scored more than 500 runs in two consecutive seasons. His performance for India A team was also excellent.

Chopra said on his YouTube channel, “Give Ishaan a break. PrabhSimran Singh will easily do the job of keeping. So you can use him as a player. This is an opportunity that can be given to Prabh.”

He said, “What is his mistake? You have chosen Prabhsimran Singh, and we have no idea when you will choose him again. You have won the series.”

Chopra’s comments seem all the more relevant as the Men in Blue have provided several budding bowlers with their first cap in the shortest format of the game.

Yash Thakur and Ashok Sharma are the two fast bowlers who made their debut in the series. India’s pace attack in the series has mostly depended on inexperienced bowlers, who did a good job in the last two matches. For batting, the team mostly relies on a certain group of players who played against England.

Why should Team India give debut cap to Prabhsimran Singh?

After winning the opening match easily, India won the second match by 90 runs to win the 3-match T20 series against The Chevron. In both the matches, the playing combination of the team worked like a good machine.

Zimbabwe has the talent, but not enough to compete closely with the 2026 T20 World Cup winning team. Due to the team’s dominant performance, which was expected ahead of the series, Aakash Chopra suggested that the Indian team management reward the keeper-batsman with his first cap.

Prabhsimran Singh played for Punjab Kings in the IPL under Shreyas Iyer, who is India’s captain in the T20I format. Since both of them have played many matches for the IPL team, there must have been a good bonding between them.
