One of the oldest and most prestigious leagues of women’s franchise T20 tournaments in the world, the WBBL marked the strangest moment in its history. During a game between Adelaide Strikers and Hobart Hurricanes Women, the match was abandoned midway through the match after Roller buried a stray ball into the track.
WBBL 2025 has already seen many such strange incidents and extraordinary situations in matches involving Adelaide Strikers. However, the latest will remain the most memorable thing to happen in the last few years.
Adelaide Strikers and Hobart Hurricanes WBBL match canceled after strange incident
The Adelaide Strikers did a commendable job with the bat, with Madeline Penna batting the entire 20 overs of the Strikers’ innings as they secured 167 runs. However, the innings break became one of the most memorable moments of cricket.
During this period, a ball was misfielded and went under the heavy roller as it rolled across the pitch. From the force of the roller, it could be seen, as Hobart captain Elyse Villani said, that the ball fell down the track and, therefore, play had to be stopped.
After witnessing the bizarre incident at Karen Rolton Oval, he said, “Tahila McGrath and I were asked to look at the hole, and it was quite large, and the depth, as you can imagine, was the size of the outside of the ball. It was quite a large hole.”
Well… a WBBL game was abandoned halfway through because the heavy roller accidentally buried a stray ball into the pitch during the innings break.

Adelaide Strikers games see third call-off of the WBBL season
Australia’s great all-rounder Tahila McGrath is the captain of Adelaide Strikers in the Women’s Big Bash League. Under his leadership the team has performed mediocrely with 9 points.
Having played 9 games already in the season, Adelaide could only manage 3 wins as three of their games were washed out due to rain. But fortunately for them, every game that was canceled before the latest was not going in the strikers’ favour.
The first such incident occurred when Stars needed only 4 balls to end the game, but the match was abandoned; Otherwise, the strikers would have lost through DLS. Secondly, when Thunder needed just 3 runs from 13 balls, play was stopped again due to rain, which was arguably not heavy enough to stop play.
Hobart Hurricanes top the WBBL points table
Adelaide Strikers opener Penna performed well with the bat and with small contributions from Tammy Beaumont and Patterson in the innings, they were able to set a target of 168 against the Hurricanes, who are in great form.
Nate Sciver-Brunt was the Hurricanes’ best bowler, while Molly Strano, Nicola Carey and Lynsey Smith took one wicket each. Currently, Hurricanes are on top of the points table with 15 points from their 10 matches
