Wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Carey has responded to Stuart Broad’s recent comments that England will face “the worst Australian team since 2010” in the upcoming Ashes 2025-26. The Australian cricketer dismissed the comment, saying that Broad and his team will “have to wait and see” in next month’s series.

Broad responded to David Warner’s prediction of a 4–0 win in Australia’s favor by describing the current Australian Test team as “the worst since 2010”. Speaking on his podcast For the Love of Cricket, Broad said the English team is the strongest it has been in 15 years, while Australia’s lineup is the weakest since England’s last Ashes win.

Broad said in his podcast For the Love of Cricket, “You wouldn’t be surprised to think – it’s not really an opinion, it’s a fact – this is probably the worst Australian team since 2010 when England last won. And this is the best English team since 2010.”

I guess we’ll wait and see – Alex Carey

Alex Carey warned against underestimating Australia when asked about Stuart Broad’s comments. Carey stressed that the Pat Cummins-led Australian team is a successful unit that has consistently performed at a high level over the past few years.

Asked about Broad’s comments, he said, “No comment, did he say that, did he say that? I guess we’ll wait and see. Everyone has played against Stuart in the past and we know what a huge competitor he is and how much he’s done for Test cricket.”

“We have a really experienced cricket team that has achieved a lot of success over the last three to four years under the leadership of Patty Cummins,” he said.

Some of Australia’s greatest Test players include – Alex Carey

Alex Carey highlights Australia’s recent achievements, including winning the World Test Championship, retaining the Ashes in England and reaching another WTC final earlier this year. He credited their flexibility, experience and strong leadership, saying the team never felt disrespected.

Carey added, “Winning the World Test Championship, retaining the Ashes there, making another World Test Championship earlier this year was a very good recognition of the success of this team.”

“I think internally the boys don’t think they’re disappointed, I just think this group is capable of overcoming any challenges that come their way. And that’s through experience, great leadership, amazing players. Some of Australia’s greatest Test players are in this Test team at the moment.”

Not much change for the group – Alex Carey

The wicketkeeper batsman expressed confidence in the depth of the Australian team. Carey said that even if Pat Cummins misses the upcoming match, the capable players in the team are ready to move forward. He also supported Steve Smith to seamlessly take over the captaincy when needed.

“And I think we’ve seen with Scott Boland, his record of not playing consecutive Test matches on a regular basis shows that there are a number of guys, someone comes out and you’ve definitely got someone who will do a really good job,” Carey said.

“There won’t be much change if Pat leaves the team, Steve has the experience and he’s excited to step into this role and he has a great tactical mind. But there won’t be much change for the group.”
