Many experts began to doubt whether he deserved a place in the playing eleven of the Indian national cricket team. However, the left-handed batsman turned the tables on the biggest night of the tournament. The young batsman responded to all the criticism in a very dramatic manner.

Abhishek played a strong inning of 52 runs against the New Zealand National Cricket Team in the final of T20 World Cup 2026, which gave India a strong start in the title match. His explosive innings helped India dominate the match and subsequently lift the T20 World Cup trophy.

Basit Ali hits back at Mohammad Aamir on Abhishek Sharma’s criticism

After India’s record third T20 World Cup glory, Basit Ali openly attacked Mohammad Amir for his comments made earlier in the tournament against Abhishek Sharma. The former Pakistan batsman said that it is wrong to judge a talented player on the basis of a few bad matches.

The former selector and coach has said that every cricketer goes through difficult times, but true class never ends. He also acknowledged that players like Abhishek are rare and exciting, and even said that Pakistan would have benefited greatly if they had such a fearless batsman in their team.

Basit Ali said in an ARY TV show, “Even if he has been out for a duck three times, form is temporary, but class is permanent. When people start naming such classy players, it honestly feels disappointing to me. The kind of names that are being thrown around… I wish we had two or three players like him in our country too.”

Aamir’s prediction backfires badly in T20 World Cup 2026

During the tournament, Aamir also made many bold predictions about India’s campaign. He even suggested that India might fail to reach the knockout stage. He called Abhishek a “slugger”, saying, “A player who can’t stop the ball – what else would I call him?”

Aamir even predicted that the Men in Blue would not qualify for the semi-finals, and when they reached the final, he picked New Zealand as the stronger team to lift the trophy. But the Indian team is now the champion team.

They successfully defended their title and became the first team in history to win the T20 World Cup three times. The win also marked India’s third consecutive ICC trophy after winning the T20 World Cup 2024 and ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
