The 2026 T20 World Cup is underway, and every former cricketer and pundit has shared their respective predictions on the winners, semi-finalists, highest run-scorer, leading wicket-taker and player of the tournament. Former South African fast bowler Wayne Parnell is the latest to give his prediction on the following.
In an exclusive chat with CricTracker, Wayne Parnell was asked to share his views on the above mentioned prediction list. He made some shocking predictions. After being asked about the player who scored the most runs of the tournament. Parnell believes that Suryakumar Yadav will score the most runs. “Yes, most runs. Most runs, I would go with Sky (Suryakumar Yadav),” Parnell said.
Wayne Parnell gives his predictions for the World Cup
When he was asked about the leading wicket-taker, he mentioned two surprising names, West Indies fast bowler Romario Shepherd and Varun Chakravarthy. Wayne Parnell said, “For most wickets, I would go with someone who is involved in the game, bowling in all phases. I think someone like Romario Shepherd of the West Indies might be one of them, but I think the leading wicket-taker would be Varun Chakravarthy.”
Wayne Parnell was also named Player of the Tournament, as the former Proteas speedster once again believes that Suryakumar Yadav could be the MVP of the tournament. “I think Sky is going to have a big impact. Obviously, the India captain is playing on home soil as well, so I’m supporting Sky,” he said.
Suryakumar Yadav had a great start to the tournament as he displayed his experience in the Men in Blue’s first match against the USA at the Wankhede Stadium last Sunday. He played an unbeaten inning of 84 runs off 49 balls where other batsmen were struggling to score runs and India was reduced to 77/6.
Wayne Parnell selects four semi-finalists
Wayne Parnell chose his four semi-finalists, saying, “Obviously, I mentioned the top four. India would be one. South Africa would be one. England would be one. And fourth, New Zealand always plays well in ICC tournaments, so New Zealand would be fourth.”

Wayne Parnell, when asked about the winner of the competition, believes that co-hosts India will defend their trophy and South Africa will once again become finalists. “I think the final will be between India and South Africa. I’m obviously hoping that South Africa will win it, but I think it will be very difficult to beat India on home soil,” he said.
India a strong contender to win the World Cup?
India is a strong contender to win the T20 World Cup on home soil. They have been a team equipped with complete firepower and everything that is required to win the championship. They have won 26 out of the last 31 matches played in the bilateral series. India is also on a winning streak of 9 matches since the start of the 2024 T20 World Cup.
The Men in Blue will face Namibia in their upcoming match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Washington Sundar is reported to have joined the team in Delhi ahead of the game on Thursday.
